What do you learn from peer review?

On a project such as the one you're currently working on, our technical report, what benefits do you receive from the peer review process? Can you think of any ways in which this process might be improved?

  1. Mostly just the problems I was already aware of, but also that I was catering too much to the general audience and didn't use much technical talk to keep it interesting at a more intellectual level.

  2. The reviews have highlighted my problems in grammar and sentence structure. I also have learned I have a problem with switching verb tense, sometimes in the middle of a sentence. Sometimes I get reviews that are not very helpful because they would only give a sentence on what I needed to improve. I've had these problems throughout my college carer so I guess it's time for me to actually start paying attention.

  3. The reviews were beneficial to me because it pointed out some of the flaws in my paper will grammar and syntax. It also helped me to make paper more understandable to a general audience. i can't think of a way to improve the review. The rubric for grading was good but it would be the student if someone didn't get a good review.

  4. You can learn how your work appears to others. That is they often find mistaked you made in writing, for example grammar and sentence structure are common mistakes caught by perr reviewers. In the case of this project they are especially useful in determining if your paper is understandable to a general audience.

  5. Just like working in a team, peer review allows for the object you are trying to see to be viewed from a different angle, allowing for a fuller and clearer image. I have grown used to having friends that read my work and I read theirs, even though most of the time it is for different classes. Especially with writing, it never hurts to have feedback "before you publish," even if you don't end up making any major edits or changes. Often when writing creatively, even technically, you come up with phrases or writing styles for that paper that you may be rather proud of, but sometimes it takes someone else to make you realize that it may not be as cool as you think it is.
