IRB Approval

We spoke several weeks ago about the need to get IRB Approval for certain primary research practices. I want you to look up "IRB Approval" both on our NMT site and by doing a Google search. From what you read, tell me first what an "IRB Approval" is. Second, why is IRB approval important to secure and for what kinds of projects it is critical? Based on what you've read, why does your project need to have it or why does your project not need to have it?

  1. IRB stands for Institutional Review Board. They review any experiments that involve people and determine if it is ethical. Their approval is needed before any human study oriented experiment can be started. My project does not need it as I am not dealing with people for it.

  2. The IRB is the Institutional Review Board. The purpose of this board is to determine if surveys and projects relating to asking people information is ethical. It is important to get this approval for surveys or studies done on people because you don't want to be crossing any boundaries when it comes to peoples information. My project does not require approval from the IRB

  4. Institutional Review Boards review experiments relating to an experiment done on human beings. These boards determine the ethical standpoints of human experimentation and the methods one proposes. My project does not need IRB approval as computers are not yet considered human.
